Tesla has officially launched its highly anticipated annual software package, the Tesla 2025 Holiday Update, this December. Following tradition, this year's release brings a strong combination of useful features and entertaining additions designed to improve the in-car experience for owners. The company has shared all the details, confirming major advancements across navigation, safety, and personalization.
The most impactful feature is the deep integration of Grok AI, which now takes on Navigation Commands, allowing drivers to set and edit destinations using natural voice prompts in Assistant mode. Practical utility is boosted with 3D Supercharger Maps at pilot locations, showing the site layout and live occupancy, and Charge Limit per Location for automated charging preferences. For safety and fun, the update includes Dog Mode Live Activity (sending cabin photos and temperature updates to iPhones), an improved Dashcam Viewer with speed and FSD status, and a new in-car selfie feature called Photobooth. This update solidifies Tesla's commitment to continuous vehicle intelligence and user experience improvements.
The most significant functional advancement in the Tesla 2025 Holiday Update is the deeper integration of Grok, Tesla’s artificial intelligence model, with the vehicle's core functions. Grok can now directly perform Navigation Commands. Users can speak naturally to add or edit multiple destinations, effectively turning the AI into an advanced co-pilot. To use this feature, Grok’s personality must be set to "Assistant" mode.
For long-distance travel, the charging experience has been upgraded with 3D Supercharger Maps. At select pilot locations, the navigation system now displays a detailed 3D site map of the Supercharger station. This lets drivers view the station layout and current stall occupancy status, helping them plan exactly where to park before arrival. Furthermore, a very practical feature is the new location-based charging limit, which allows your car to remember and automatically apply a preferred charging limit for specific places like your home or workplace.
Enhanced Safety and Utility Features
The Tesla 2025 Holiday Update also introduces valuable safety and utility upgrades. For dog owners, Dog Mode Live Activity is a welcome addition. iPhone users can now see periodic photo snapshots of the car’s interior, along with real-time updates on the cabin temperature and battery level, directly on a live activity card on their phone's lock screen.
The Dashcam Viewer Update is now more informative for reviewing incidents. Recorded clips now include expanded data details such as the vehicle speed, steering wheel angle, and the status of the autonomous driving system. Other quality-of-life improvements include automatic High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane selection in navigation when eligible, and a helpful chime to alert the driver if a phone key or a phone is left behind in the cabin after exiting the car.
Fun and Personalization: Photobooth, Santa Mode, and Gaming
As expected from a holiday release, entertainment and customization are a big focus. The new Tesla Photobooth feature allows occupants to take in-car selfies using the interior camera. It comes with a variety of fun filters, stickers, and emojis, and the captured photos can be easily shared through the Tesla app.
The traditional Santa Mode has also been expanded, adding new festive visual elements like animated snowmen, trees, and a special lock chime. For the Light Show feature, a fresh choreography for the 'Jingle Rush' track has been introduced. Gamers will enjoy the addition of the challenging SpaceX ISS Docking Simulator game to the Tesla Arcade. Finally, personalization gets a boost, as the 'Paint Shop' menu now allows users to upload custom wraps, window tints, and license plate designs for their on-screen vehicle avatar.
The Tesla 2025 Holiday Update successfully continues the company’s tradition of enhancing the user experience through software. With key features like Grok integration and 3D Supercharger Maps for improved utility, alongside fun additions, this update ensures a smarter and more enjoyable driving experience. The rollout of this comprehensive package is currently happening in phases, with feature availability depending on the vehicle's model and geographical region.
